How to Wash and Maintain Your Human Hair Wig

How to Wash and Maintain Your Human Hair Wig

To ensure your human hair wig maintains its best appearance, following a proper at-home wig care routine is essential. Here are five simple steps to help you ensure your wig looks its finest.

Step 1: Pre-Wash Maintenance

Start by preparing your human hair wig. Gently smooth out any tangles using a wide-tooth comb. When detangling, always start from the bottom and work your way up toward the roots, whether you're dealing with wig extensions or your natural hair.

Step 2: Rinse Human Hair Wig

Once you've detangled the wig, place it under a faucet and use cool lukewarm water to submerge it completely. After rinsing, gently remove excess water using your hands. If your wig has long hair, consider placing it under a shower faucet to prevent hair strands from going down the drain.

Step 3: Shampoo Human Hair Wig

Apply a small amount of shampoo to your hands and stroke the hair from roots to ends, keeping the shampoo away from the wig's scalp. Avoid scrubbing or rubbing the hair to prevent damage. Use a shampoo specially formulated for human hair wigs, as these shampoos are designed to be gentle and effective. To remove the shampoo, run cool water from the base down to the ends, ensuring the water runs clear. Gently blot the hair with a towel before applying conditioner. The wig should be damp but not overly wet.

Step 4: Condition Human Hair Wig

Choose a wig-approved conditioner and apply a small amount, starting from the bottom of the wig. Use your fingers to gently comb through the strands, avoiding the wig's base. Allow the conditioner to set for the recommended time (usually one to five minutes), following the instructions on the bottle. Rinse with cold water, running it from the top of the wig down to the ends. Ensure all conditioner is rinsed out before blotting the wig dry.

Step 5: Dry Human Hair Wig

After washing and conditioning, allow the wig to air dry by placing it on a wig stand. Refrain from using a blow dryer or brushing until the wig is completely dry. Once dry, you can style the wig as usual.

By following these steps, you'll maintain the quality and appearance of your human hair wig, keeping it looking its best for longer.
